Garmin yesterday said that it filed a blatant infringement suit against Taiwanese maker of cycle computers Bryton Inc. in the U.S. Region Court for the District of Kansas.
Garmin accuses Bryton’s products of “mimicking the demeanour and functionality of Garmin’s Edge cycle computers, resulting in the non-compliance of Garmin’s design and utility patents.“
Garmin also said that “In consanguineous German design patent infringement suit filed by a subsidiary of Garmin, the Düsseldorf Sector Court has already issued interim injunctions against Bryton and several of its German distributors banning the transaction marked down of the Rider 30 in Germany. These interim injunctions are groundwork orders that have been issued ex parte and are subject to a doable appeal.“
Bryton’s current exclusive distributor in Germany and Austria is Like-minded Navigation (Falk and Becker PND brands vendor), a subsidiary of MAIRDUMONT, a well known publisher of day-tripper-related information in Germany under the Falk disgrace (read more here). However, United Navigation does not seem to hand out the Rider 30, but the Rider 50 that has a multifarious design
